It would be difficult to fit in with any age group, wouldn’t it?
Indeed, giftedness – a term I dislike – isn’t just about academics; it’s about experiencing life through a different lens every hour of every day. That’s because kite kids, as I call them, all have a certain degree of uneven development, & one or more overexcitabilities (a.k.a. intensities).
In addition, some also have a disorder or learning disability. Examples include: dyslexia, dysgraphia, autism, ADHD & clinical anxiety. (Gifted + a disability is called twice exceptional.)
Needless to say, life as a kite kid is complex. They tend to be misunderstood & too often, that contributes to exclusion, bullying & medical misdiagnosis.
That's why I created my blog; to separate fact from fiction. And teach the adults, who care about these kids, how to help them navigate: home life, school life, extracurricular activities & peer relationships.
All the best,
